Professor Mayda Velasco elected to serve on the Governing Board of the University of Puerto Rico

Mayda Velasco, (PhD, Northwestern University, 1995), professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and Director of the international COFI Institute, has been elected to serve on the Governing Board of the University of Puerto Rico by the Governor of Puerto Rico.
The Governing Board of the University of Puerto Rico is composed of 13 members from diverse facets of Puerto Rican society that supervise the general functioning of the institution and formulate, examine, and approve guidelines that govern the University.
As a member of the Governing Board of the University, Professor Velasco will play a very influential role in the University and the country. She has been conducting analyses of the incidence of COVID-19 in Puerto Rico.
“This is a great honor and opportunity to have an impact on both the short term and the long term,” said Professor Mayda Velasco.
