Eric Zaslow, professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics has been named a 2021 Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
The Fellows of the American Mathematical Society recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics. Professor Zaslow was recognized for his contributions to mathematical physics and mirror symmetry. He was recognized along with 45 other distinguished mathematicians worldwide – making up the 2021 Fellows of the American Mathematical Society cohort.
The Fellows program goals are to create an enlarged class of mathematicians recognized by their peers as distinguished for their contributions to the profession, to honor the extraordinary and excellent, lift the morale of mathematics, and support the advancement of mathematicians in leadership positions in society.
As a Fellow, Zaslow will take part in the election of new Fellows, present a “public face” of excellence in mathematics, and advise the President and/or the Council on public matters when requested.
