Helen Tilley, professor of history, has been awarded a prestigious research grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The National Endowment for the Humanities promotes excellence in the humanities and works to spread lessons of history across the country. The Endowment achieves this goal by awarding grants to cultural institutions and individual scholars for their top-rated proposals.
Professor Helen Tilley received her grant for a multi-authored monograph on the history of African medical heritage from 1890 to 1990. Professor Tilley and her team will also prepare a special issue of Méthod(e)s, an African bilingual peer-reviewed journal. The research will answer three questions relating to African colonial conquest, ethnographic research, decolonization, and medical and art history. Professor Tilley’s grant period runs from October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2023. Read more about this research project here.
