On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, Elie Rekhess, Crown Visiting Professor for Israel Studies and Director of the Israel Innovation Project, discussed the factors that have led to the recent conflict between Israel and Gaza in an interview with News Now on Fox.

“The eruption of violence in Jerusalem is the combined outcome of tension over the Al-Aqsa mosque, the political vacuum created by the postponement of elections in the territories and Hamas’ attempt to make strategic gains and rising civil unrest among the Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel, in a show of national solidarity with their Palestinian brethren.”

“The ultimatum sent by Hamas to Israel may escalate the conflict and deteriorate the explosive situation…. Hopefully the only way to settle the hostilities would be by international mediators.”
