Judith Olson ’65 to receive honorary Doctor of Science during commencement

Northwestern alum Judith Olson ’65 will receive an honorary Doctor of Science from Northwestern University during this year’s commencement on June 13.

Olson, the Donald Bren Professor of Information and Computer Sciences Emerita in the department of informatics at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), graduated from Northwestern in 1965 with an undergraduate degree in experimental psychology. Olson earned a master’s degree and then a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from the University of Michigan in 1969. 

She would then go on to teach at the University of Michigan’s psychology and business departments for 38 years. Olson moved to UCI in 2008, where she currently studies and teaches human-computer interaction. Olson is also a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2018.
