NU Faculty Live with Professor Ted Sargent on October 4: “The Science and Technology of Decarbonization”
September 27, 2022

Northwestern Professor of chemistry Ted Sargent will discuss how researchers are creating solutions that capture and consume CO2 to make fuels and materials during an event held on October 4, 2022 at 2 pm CDT. The virtual event, titled “The Science and Technology of Decarbonization,” is presented by the Northwestern Alumni Association.

Much has justly been made of reducing the carbon footprint of our electricity supply using fast-advancing solar and wind technologies. Accelerated progress is now needed to decarbonize the chemicals and materials sectors too: everyday products from concrete to diapers have a significant carbon footprint, and compelling solutions reside in replacing fossil sources of carbon with CO2-capture-based supplies. Sargent will discuss the latest research in the field, outline a roadmap for true climate and economic impact, and discuss how Northwestern researchers are contributing to this important global endeavor.
Ted Sargent was a faculty member at University of Toronto 1998-2022. In Sept 2022 he joined Northwestern as the Lynn Hopton Davis and Greg Davis Professor in the Department of Chemistry and in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His papers have been cited over 100,000 times. His startup InVisage Technologies was acquired by Apple in 2017. More information on his research is at light.northwestern.edu.
