Bryna Kra, the Sarah Rebecca Roland Professor of Mathematics at Northwestern University, has been elected a Foreign Correspondent of La Academia Chilena de Ciencias, the Chilean Academy of Sciences.

La Academia Chilena de Ciencias is one of six schools that constitute the Institute of Chile in Santiago. Comprised of both Chilean nationals and foreigners, its mission is to be a forum for discussion and ideas about knowledge and science in Chile. Members must be active scientists “of recognized prestige” whose original research is published in high-level journals and whose pupils actively cultivate some branch of the sciences.

Kra is a mathematician specializing in ergodic theory and dynamical systems, particularly on problems motivated by combinatorics and number theory. She was recently named a 2023 Fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics and is also president of the American Mathematical Society, assuming the role on February 1st after being elected to the position one year ago.
