Todd Gingrich has been recognized as a 2023 Sloan Fellow of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Gingrich is assistant professor of chemistry at Northwestern.
The renowned Sloan Research Fellowship Program recognizes and rewards outstanding early-career faculty who “have the potential to revolutionize their fields of study.” Gingrich is one of two Northwestern faculty included in this year’s cohort of 126 early-career scholars who “represent the most promising scientific researchers working today.”
The two-year $75,000 fellowship is one of the most competitive and prestigious awards available to young researchers, and past fellows have gone on to become some of the most decorated experts in their field. The financial support can be used flexibly to advance the fellow’s research.
Gingrich is a theoretical chemist specializing in nonequilibrium chemical dynamics. Inspired by biological systems that utilize chemical fuels to drive nonequilibrium processes, his research group aims to develop tools that can aid in the design of artificial systems with similar capabilities. His research group studies problems in statistical mechanics, stochastic thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, nonequilibrium self-assembly, and biophysics.
