Faculty Spotlight: Politcal Scientist James Druckman
February 6, 2025

James Druckman, Payson S. Wild Professor of Political Science, has published over 100 articles and book chapters spanning topics such as political science, economics, psychology, and much more. In his research, Druckman analyzes how normal people make decisions about political affiliation, communication and finances. His most influential work, the concept of framing, “the perspectives induced by politicians with images, words and phrases in order to influence public opinion.”
As a Northwestern professor, Druckman lauds the opportunities for interdisciplinary research and collaborations. “I think of my research as very collaborative and Northwestern has always been extremely generous in finding endeavours with students,” said Druckman. “There is a real investment in supporting quality research.”
“The new knowldge I’m creating will hopefully educate people to think systematically in a social science way — identifying different ways in which to communicate information so that people can digest that information in a more objective fashion.”
